Can be used with the ROCATEC™ bonding system from 3M ESPE.
3M ESPE Exclusively Recommends the Basic Line of Renfert Sandblasting Units for Use with ROCATEC™. The ROCATEC™ Bonding System Gentle Coating, Long Lasting By now, the 3M ESPE system is by no means a novelty any longer, although it still produces unbeatable results. This bonding system recommends itself when an adhesive bond is to be established between composites such as Sinfony™ masking agent or a composite bonding cement such as RelyX™ARC and a dental piece regardless of whether the piece is made of metal, acrylic, porcelain, or even zircon oxide porcelain. The ROCATEC™ system is therefore universally employable. In addition, the system achieves incredible results with respect to adhesion values and durability. These benefits are all available to the dental technician with relatively low effort.
Cold Silane Priming in a Sandblasting Unit The primary advantage of this procedure: The coating is applied cold thus preventing thermal stress on the metal bracket and avoiding the resulting risk of warping. This is a particular advantage in the case of constructions which have not been cast stress-free. The coating is the result of a chemical reaction. In this case, the conventional forms of applied energy such as heat or light are not used, instead, the mechanical energy of the abrasive itself is utilised. This released kinetic energy acts at the atomic or molecular level but does not produce heat at the macroscopic level. For this system, the specially modified abrasives, ROCATEC™ Plus or Soft play a central role, together with a coating made of silicone oxide. On contact, a kinetic/chemical reaction takes place, by means of which the grain transfers its own coating to the application surface.
Visual Inspection The surface is first blasted with ROCATEC™ Pre primer to clean it and create a micro-retentive rough texture. The metal takes on a dark colour as an indication to the dental technician that the ceram has been successful.
ROCATEC™ With the Renfert Sandblasting Unit The following characteristics make Renfert sandblasting units ideal for this process: The patented mixing chamber permits a
continuous and homogeneous stream, regardless of the abrasive fill level: a factor which is vital for a regulated, uniform distribution on the surface. Renfert units prevent abrasion of the metal surfaces (since it is not the unit itself which is to be silane primed) because the line consists primarily of rubber hoses. A range of blasting nozzles allows the correct nozzle to be selected for the abrasive grain size being used. The system comprises three abrasives: ROCATEC™ Pre for pre-treatment, and ROCATEC™ Plus or ROCATEC™ Soft for the actual silane priming. Acting as abrasives they, naturally, also display a certain abrasive effect, which is why the Soft variant with its smaller grain size should be employed for delicate objects.
When is Silane Priming Worthwhile? Among other instances for:
Crowns and bridges Secondary components (e.g., telescoping or sliding structures)) Saddle areas of model castings or braces
Model casting acrylics for model casting prosthodontics Porcelain teeth in prosthetic acrylics Adhesive bridges Porcelain or composite masking agents for repairs
- Suprastructures for implantology
- Galvano- prosthodontics
- Adhesive bonding of composite cements and dental restorations
- And much, much more.
