Dental polishing agents and polishing tools facilitate a quick, material-friendly finish of ceramics, resins, metals, and hybrid materials in the lab. Controlled smoothing reduces surface roughness—which enhances shine stability, reduces plaque build-up, and improves handling in the oral cavity. Typical applications in the lab

  • High-gloss polishing of monolithic CAD/CAM restorations (e.g., zirconia, lithium disilicate, veneering ceramics).
  • Finishing of hybrid materials and composites where different material phases must be processed uniformly.
  • Polishing of PMMA and denture resins—including 3D-printed materials: smoothing layer lines, support traces, and microstructures.
  • Metal surfaces (precious metal and CoCr alloys): defined luster and reduced adhesion of residues in critical areas.

Polishing means smoothing a surface without “significant” material removal—in the micrometer range. Controlled smoothing reduces the effective surface area: This improves physical properties, can reduce susceptibility to cracks, and creates a topography favourable to hygiene. As a result, restorations become less “prone” to stains and plaque—and the luster appears more natural because light is reflected more evenly.
